D3.2 – Student Training and Course Deployment 3 – VAMK
The inclusion of deep tech topics in the following courses at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences has successfully enriched our students’ learning journey, providing new dimensions and capabilities as demonstrated in these programs.
Basics of Programming (Ohjelmoinnin perusteet), which commenced on August 31, 2023, is designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of programming and stages of software development, including data storage, management, and best programming practices. As of November 3, 2023, A total of 40 students from Business Information Technology had successfully completed 2 of the total 5 ECTS credits assigned to the course. The remaining credits are scheduled to be completed by December 17, 2023. As a deep tech component, the course utilized generative AI technology, particularly an AI tutor, to enhance the learning experience. This integration offered practical insights into the application of generative AI in software development, illustrating its potential in modern technological education.
Project Management, which commenced on August 31, 2023, provided students with vital skills in planning, executing, and managing business information systems projects. Emphasis was placed on project definition, planning, management, and monitoring. By the end of Phase 1 on November 30, 2023, a total of 24 students from International Business had successfully completed 2 of the total 5 ECTS credits assigned to the course. The remaining credits are scheduled to be completed by December 17, 2023. A distinctive aspect of the course was the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI into project management, promoting thorough research and an understanding of AI’s applications and challenges. Students learned about organizational structures, project scoping, and stakeholder identification, with AI integration to enhance project management practices such as risk and stakeholder management. The course assessment included quizzes, MS Project assignments, and an AIfocused project management task, culminating in a Capstone Project where students applied AI to manage a project lifecycle.
Public Economics (Kansantalous), which commenced on August 31, 2023, aimed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of Economics. By the end of Phase 1 on November 30, 2023, a total of 57 students from Business Economics had successfully completed 2 of the total 5 ECTS credits assigned to the course. The remaining credits are scheduled to be completed by December 17, 2023. The course uniquely integrated Deep Tech tools, notably generative AI and Blockchains in Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and citizen identification, alongside traditional economic concepts. Students developed a solid understanding of Economics, focusing on the practical application of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) components and exploring Deep Tech applications like generative Large Language Models (LLMs) and Web 3.0 Blockchain technologies. Assessments included individual and team-based reports, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and the practical application of Deep Tech tools in economic contexts. All students received mentoring during Phase 1 of the course.
Video Production (Videotuotanto), which commenced on October 23, 2023, aimed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of video production, covering preproduction, production, and postproduction phases. By the end of Phase 1 on November 30, 2023, a total of 10 students from Business Information Technology had successfully completed 2 of the total 5 ECTS credits assigned to the course. The remaining credits are scheduled to be completed by March 13, 2024. The course also focused on utilizing Deep Tech tools, especially generative AI, for media content creation and refinement. Students learned about various aspects of video production, including single and multi-camera interview techniques, editing, and content production. Deep Tech integration involved using generative Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Bing.com/chat for scriptwriting, and tools like DALLE-3 for multimedia content creation. The assessment included individual and team-based reports, evaluating students’ theoretical and practical skills in video production and Deep Tech application.
